About Rutgers NSCS
The mission of the Rutgers NSCS Chapter is to enhance our members' collegiate experience by promoting leadership, enhancing scholarship, and implementing related service activities.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honors organization which recognizes outstanding academic achievement among first and second year college students. The Society was founded in 1994 at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and has grown to 218 colleges and universities nationwide. The three pillars of the Society are: Scholarship, Leadership, and Service.
NSCS members are also eligible to participate in a variety of activities sponsored by the Society. Scholarships and awards, leadership development activities, service programs, community building and information sharing are the focus of activities organized nationally.
The Rutgers NSCS Chapter is one of the top chapters in the nation. We are among a handful of schools that have consecutively been awarded "Gold Star Status", the top honor that a local chapter can obtain from the national office. Over the past year more than 300 Rutgers NSCS members participated in a meeting or event with a core group of over 50 members who continually partake in events.
We are looking towards the membership to brainstorm ideas with the executive board, who in turn will offer guidance and resources. We want our members to expand on their own demonstrations of leadership. Much of our projects page hosts ideas that originated from our members. NSCS boasts some of the brightest and most involved students on campus; we wish to utilize the potential of our members. Anyone can clean a river,
host a blood drive, or run a race. What's special is when your members outreach across a continent to assist with the school system of a community still recovering from the legacy of apartheid, such as the Seidelberg Farm School in Capetown, South Africa.
We are providing a flow chart below with an abbreviated statement of mission. Our overall goal is to serve you, our members, by helping you expand your leadership skills and co-curricular involvement. Welcome to NSCS!
