President:

Jessica Chen

As President, Jessica plans and coordinates every meeting and event that the chapter holds. She also communicates with representatives of the national office to facilitate the success of the chapter. Outside of NSCS, Jessica is a Rutgers College junior, majoring in Mathematics and Criminal Justice. She is also a member of the Fellowship Committee of Phi Sigma Pi - National Honor Fraternity, the head of Community Service for Rutgers Navigators, and a Blue Belt in the Jujitsu Club. Additionally Jessica works for the University Police Department as a Community Service Officer and the Mathematics Department as a Peer Mentor. She believes that this will be a big year for the growth of NSCS and she looks forward to seeing all that the members have to offer.


Executive Vice President:

Chhavi Virmani

Chhavi Virmani is a Rutgers College junior majoring in accounting with a minor in statistics. As the Executive Vice President, she works closely with the president to facilitate the growth of the chapter, in addition to being responsible for planning the Induction Ceremony and the End of the Year Banquet. She is a tutor for various courses including accounting, statistics, algebra and pre-calculus at the Learning Resource Centers at RU. Another arrow in her quiver is the Operations/Reservations Manager’s position she holds at the Students Activities Center. Additionally, she is also a member of ODE-The International Economics Honor Society. In terms of cultural activities, Chhavi has taken keen interest in the dance forms of Jazz and Salsa. Her goal is to help all NSCS members find ample opportunities to grow and to develop their skill sets.


Vice President of Community Service:

Christine Hsieh

Christine Hsieh is a senior at Rutgers College, double majoring in physics and cell biology/neuroscience. As the Vice President of Community Service for NSCS Christine has the responsibility of coordinating all of the service projects of the chapter. She is in charge of the smaller programs such as that with Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen, as well as larger events like National Youth Service Day. Other than NSCS, she is also a player and officer of the Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team and travels frequently to other universities for tournaments (North Carolina is 10 hours away!) She is also a tutor for the Rutgers College Honors Program Tutoring Project, and conducts research in Condensed Matter physics.


Vice President for Planning for College Success:

Monvan Hu

Monvan Hu is currently the Vice President of Planning For College Success (PFCS) an initiative that reaches out to youths grades K-12 within the local community to promote the value of higher education. The largest project that is undertaken by PFCS is a daily tutoring program at the New Brunswick Free Public Library. In addition, PFCS is aiding the Math and Science Learning Center in hosting tours and science demonstrations for local elementary schools. Monvan hopes to introduce a new SAT/ test prep course this year among other projects that will positively influence our community. Aside from NSCS, Monvan is active in Convers|asian, the Pan?Asian Magazine, the Rutgers Chinese Dance Troupe, and several mentoring and research projects. In the end, he hopes to make a lasting impact on the Rutgers and New Brunswick community.


Coordinator for New Member Relations:

Tamarie Macon

As the first person ever elected as the Coordinator for New Member Relations, Tamarie has the distinct role of engaging those recently invited and excited members. She hopes to not only plan interesting and innovative activities, but she also wants the members to develop and run those activities themselves! Although she is concerned with improving NSCS, Tamarie maintains an active schedule as a member of the Rutgers Women's Volleyball team (yes, Rutgers has a Division 1 volleyball team!), a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative, a Carr Scholar, a volunteer with New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) Hunger and Homelessness Campaign, and an avid PFCS tutor. Tamarie wishes to use her diversity of background and interests to motivate the members of NSCS!


Secretary of Public Relations:

Krista Kohlmann

Krista is currently the Secretary for PR at the NSCS Chapter of Rutgers University. She is in charge of planning Spirit Week especially through creating and distributing flyers. Aside from member recruitment, she is in charge of all publications for NSCS including informational bulletins and pamphlets. Krista also communicates with various forms of media in order to spread the word about NSCS activities including the University's newspaper, The Daily Targum. When she is not participating in NSCS, Krista is also the Public Relations Chair for New Student Orientation. She writes sports articles for The Daily Targum and does research in the academic discipline of sociology regarding sports. In addition, she participates in several mentoring programs on-campus that allow her to get in touch with the student body. She is very involved in the Rutgers community and loves being busy.


Secretary & Treasurer:

Ibrahim Abdel-shafy

Ibrahim is currently both the secretary and treasurer of our chapter. Ibrahim is taking charge of all monetary issues. As secretary he will be in charge of keeping track of all the points while also emailing minutes and event plans. Outside of NSCS Ibrahim is a Rutgers College junior, majoring in Biology and Political Science. Ibrahim Plans on one day becoming a leader in the medial field while also quenching his thirst for politics. Ibrahim regularly volunteers at St. Peters University Hospital and it involved in an array of clubs. He hopes this year NSCS can continue development in its impressive resume by creating strong charismatic leaders while serving the community.


Acting Webmaster:

Joe Wolf

Joe is a senior ('07) majoring in Astrophysics and believes strongly in the 'Kaizen' philosophy, which is Japanese for 'continuous improvement.' He thinks that no matter what state a person or organization is in, there is always room for improvement.


Faculty Advisor:

Dean Justine Levine

Dean Justine Hernandez Levine graduated from Rutgers College with a major in English, though she managed to survive CS111 and 205, as well as Calc II and Linear Algebra. She earned an MA in English from UCLA, and received an EdD in Philosophy of Education. For a few years she was one of five partners in an Internet strategy company, but then she came to her senses and returned to higher education. She loves working with undecided sophomores and with NSCS, because she feels that with leadership comes responsibility to listen to others and give back to the community, and NSCS is full of energy to do just that!
